Clever Opel Promotion Writes Your Name In The Sand With A New Corsa: Video

Since its emergence into the mainstream, the internet has opened up the proverbial floodgates to a bevy of different innovative and interactive marketing tactics. But this one from Opel, promoting the new Corsa E, has got to be one of the most memorable.

If you head on over to Opel’s “The New OH!” webpage set up to promote the small hatchback, and scroll down to “OH! Die erste Frau, die mit dem Auto deinin Namen schreibt…” Know what? Just scroll down to the large closeup of a woman’s face.

When you click on the image, you’ll enter your name, and check one of several optional messages to appear below your name. After you check another box (presumably a disclaimer alerting the user in German that their everlasting soul is now the exclusive property of Opel), Calligraphy Artist Simon Silaidis and Stunt Driver San Yelamos get to work carving your name and message into the dirt beneath their feet. Mine can be seen above.

Of course, whatever name you type, the driving and painting footage shown is exactly the same; only the end result changes. So if your name happens to be “Corsa,” you can simply watch the video below, and save yourself a trip to Opel’s website!

Aaron Brzozowski is a writer and motoring enthusiast from Detroit with an affinity for '80s German steel. He is not active on the Twitter these days, but you may send him a courier pigeon.

  1. Very cool, need to pick your name from the list after you type it in.

Translations for the message below your name:
    Keine Botschaft = no message
Nur für dich! = only for you
alles gute = all the best (not Go Goat!)
Ich vermisse dich! = I miss you
    Liebe Grüße! = greetings

and yes, the last box is a disclaimer check box.
