Chevrolet Cruze, Equinox Climb Sales Spots In January

Strong sales helped the Chevrolet Cruze and Equinox climb January’s list of the Top 20 best-selling vehicles in North America, The Detroit Free Press reports.

The Cruze started off January in 18th on the list of best-selling vehicles, but had risen to 14th by the end of month. The Cruze celebrated its best annual sales ever in 2014, and started out 2015 right with its best January sales ever, selling 18,693 units, a year-over-year increase of 11.1 percent.

The current-gen Equinox, which has been selling in strong, consistent numbers since its launch in 2010, is showing no signs of slowing down in 2015. Chevy moved 19,555 Equinoxs in January, enough to bump it from the 14th sales spot to the 12th. This represents a year-over-year increase of 34.4 percent.

While General motors’ Chevrolet brand celebrated a successful January, GMC didn’t end the month on the same high note. The full-size GMC sierra was the 11th best-selling vehicle in December, but somehow managed to fall out of the Top 20 entirely in January, with sales at 12,621 units.

While sales of passenger cars grew in January, AutoData analysts said market demand still leaned heavily towards trucks and SUVs.
