Buick was the top-ranked domestic automaker in Consumer Reports’ annual Car Brand Report Cards.
According to MLive, Buick edged out Honda, Acura, BMW and other strong brands for a 7th place ranking on CR’s list. Lexus, Mazda, Toyota, Audi and Subaru made up the top five brands in that respective order.
In addition to being named one of the top 10 best automakers for 2015, CR also recognized the Buick Regal as the best ‘Sports Sedan’ of the year. According to them, the Regal is “surprisingly agile” and provides a sharp “Europhile driving experience.”
The Regal isn’t the only General Motors vehicle to crack CR’s Top Picks of 2015. The Chevrolet Impala was also named the best ‘Large Car’ for its impressive ride quality and affordability, with CR saying it “humbles the Toyota Avalon and even the Lexus ES 350.”
“General Motors’ capture of two top Consumer Reports best-pick spots is a major milestone, considering a year ago at this time, the ignition-switch recall debacle was just getting started,” Michelle Krebs, senior analyst at AutoTrader.com, told MLive. “Despite the bad press, Congressional scrutiny, lawsuits and recalls, AutoTrader and KBB.com studies of consumer shopping behavior and surveys showed car owners and shoppers determined that the recalls represented the ‘old GM’ and a new GM that produced far better vehicles had emerged.”
The rest of Consumer Reports’ Best Picks for 2015 can be read here. It’s annual Car Brand Report Card is not available to those who are not subscribed, however it will be released along with its annual Auto Issue of the magazine in April.

I wonder what CR mean with Silverado being “unreliable” ?
Catching on fire, rusting frames on dealer lots, recalls for seat, steering, transfer case, software problems, and airbags.
GM needs to leverage Buick’s good press. Pull some of Cadillac resources over to the Tri Shield.
Buick has huge potential. It could take on the Japanese brands and Audi at a far smaller cost and with a much wider reach than Caddy.
No one who has bought a Pontiac would buy a Buick..plain and simple.
Big discounts are available as there is apparently 210 days supply on hand for the Regal . Frankly , this superb car and others in this mid size segment are suffering a decline in customer appeal .This due to the huge increase over the past few years in the desirability of the CUVs , SUVs . As our climate is changing with more weather extremes , this trend to FWD/AWD vehicles that sit higher . offer enhanced visibility , command of the road , and perceived safety , will only continue to be in big demand . Add to this that parking and manouverability in our more congested cities is much easier and less stressful in these more compact vehicles .
GM would be well advised to limit the models built on similar car platforms to a couple of key highly competitve designs and expand the CUVs assortment , the sooner the better !!
