There is a lot to be said about the gorgeous Buick Avenir concept. The car embodies what designers want Buick to stand for in the future, and if the Avenir is a prelude to said future, sign us up.
The Avenir walked away with an Eyes On Design award at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, and Buick had a quick word about how they envisioned the interior cabin of the stunning show car. The first thing Liz Wetzel, Director of Interior Design for Buick, says about the Avenir is a question: what does Buick stand for today, and where does it need to go?
“We came up with a design so when you open the door, it has a sense of harmony, beauty and sculpture” said Wetzel. Those adjectives ring true. When one opens the door to the show car, they become awash in a plethora of high-end materials with striking contrast. It’s a good contrast though, with creams, blacks and browns surrounding the cockpit, blending ever so well.
Wetzel can’t take all the credit for the design, though, as GM Australia, specifically Holden, was tasked with taking the sketches and bringing them to life in a full-blown concept vehicle.
As of now, GM says they have no plans to build the Avenir, but we really hope they’re pulling a fast one on us, or at least reconsider. Because Buick is definitely ready for another flagship sedan, and the Avenir is a winner.

GM needs to avoid another pricing fiasco like they’ve experienced with the Cadillac line-up, so they have to be really careful about going too far upmarket with Buick, but I’ll be really surprised if the Omega platform remains exclusive to Cadillac. It seems like the platform will need to be shared somehow to bring the cost down. Even if it’s not directly going into production, I really think something along the lines of the Avenir will follow the introduction of the CT6.
