While a full-size delivery van may not be the ideal basis for a racecar, we have to hand it to the owner of this Chevrolet Express for his creativity. He employed Illinois-based tuners AMS to turn what is normally a moving van into a 12-second drag car.
All it took to transform this Express from something the plumber might pull up in into a quarter-mile monster was a turbocharger and a camshaft. The cam from a Corvette Z06 and a 74mm turbocharger bumped the power of its 5.3-liter V8 to 700 horsepower, giving it the same quarter-mile time as a C7 Corvette.
We’ve seen what kind of performance a turbocharged LS can result in when under the hood of other General motors full-size vehicles, but it’s extra surprising seeing a 6000+ lb Express van move this quickly. Who says your performance car can’t be practical?
