The big news about the 2016 Chevy Equinox is the freshened styling and new technology. But equally as important is the reconfiguration of trim levels for the popular crossover.
Traditionally, the base Chevrolet trim level has been the LS. But the 2016 Equinox adds L as the base trim level that will slot in below LS. Therefore, the stair-step, from base to fully-loaded, is as follows.
2016 Equinox Trim Level | 2015 Equinox Trim Level | Description |
---|---|---|
L | LS | Base |
LS | 1LT | Good |
LT | 2LT | Better |
LTZ | LTZ | Best |
The addition of the L trim level also eliminatesĀ the 1LT and 2LT trim levels, thereby streamlining the packaging for consumers. Thought of in another way, L isĀ the new LS, LS is the new 1LT and LT is the new 2LT.Ā The new trim level structureĀ is welcome in our book, since the 1LT and 2LT designations often confused shoppers not familiar with the fact that LT could be broken out into 1LT and 2LT in the past.
Will the new trim level hierarchy affect pricing, and will we seeĀ itĀ permeate to other Chevy models? Weāll do our best to find out at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.

That Grille comes down little too low for my taste, and taillights slightly remind me of escape taillights.
And that’s relevant to the new trim level how, exactly?
I purchased the Equinox 2014 2lt last October 2014 and I like my vehicle appearance much
better than the 2016 just shown
When you go changing too much you loose appearance which sold the vehicle in the first place
So 1 and 2 do NOT mean 4 cylinder vs 6 cylinder on the equinox like other chevy models?
