Earlier this week,General Motors’ Chinese arm Shanghai-GM pulled the veil from their new Buick Excelle GT. The model won’t be coming to North America, but it could be a good indication of what to expect from the next-generation Buick Verano, both in the aesthetics and powertrain departments.
The Excelle sits atop GM’s D2XX global vehicle architechture, which will also be utilized in the aforementioned Verano and Cruze, as well as the upcoming Opel Astra K. The car also wears a version of Buick’s waterfall grille, which is expected to return to the Verano, and sports the red, silver and blue tri-shield emblem that may return to future North American Buick models.
Other details seen in the Excelle’s cabin could also find their way into North American Buick models. The car employs a more high-end looking interior with a wraparound-style cockpit and curvy dashboard. The layout is extremely similiar to that of the Buick Envision, another Chinese Buick model expected to arrive in America, leading us to believe this will be the brand’s go-to cabin design for many of its future models.
With all that said, is the latest Chinese Buick Hot or Not? A car similiar to the Excelle GT could very well be the next Verano, so your opinion about Shanghai-GM’s latest creation is more relevant than you may think. Vote below, and feel free to discuss in the comments.

Outside has that cheap low cost car appearance.
Inside is very nice and have design “Avenir”

Outstanding design , Buick , the benchmark for GM , along with the Chinese have rendered a winner ! The greenhouse area is deep and roof pillars/panels look slimmed . Rear and all around visibility is enhanced and I’m sure this will be the best seller in its’ market segment . Formula 101 , make as cars with as small a footprint as is possible and open up the interior to the max !!
Are we stepping back into 2009 or what? This is a BAD representation of what Buick can and should become…
I’m not sure. I’d have to see it in person because right now I like the previous one better.
Looks like Cruze and Audi 3 made love, and birthed a sickly child.
The car, unfortunately, looks like a value offering and reminds me of the sorry 1980s Buick compacts.
Verano/Excelle/Astra is a weak link lacking that beauty of the slightly larger Regal.
Got this sinking feeling that GM is having design problems. Lutz hired great talent and you see this of vehicles conceived during his stay.
Now, we will get hot or miss design, as demonstrated here and with Cruze.
I love the front end, but the greenhouse and C-Pillar look like an Elantra from 2006-2010! The interior, however, is gorgeous! I’m hoping that the next generation Verano comes as a Sedan and Hatch! I’m also hoping for a 1.8t I4 with 260HP and 275LB-FT as the standard engine.
The new D2XX platform the 2015 or 2016 Excelle/Cruze sits on isn’t described on any resource that I could find . Is GM growing the length of this model, perhaps a couple of inches to open up the interior a bit ?? If anyone out there has any info , it would be appreciated if you could elaborate , thanks !
With a 300+ horsepower Turbo V6, it would be very hot, no matter what it looked like. 😎
