And now we present to you your moment of peace and tranquility within the automotive landscape. Take a break from whatever you’re doing and enjoy the look and sound of this Small-Block V8 start up, idle and rev with clear valve covers.
The owner of this street rod decided it was unfair to keep the valves covered up and kept out of sunlight, so he replaced the original cladding with new acrylic covers instead. The result is people like us being able to see the valves jump around for joy when the throttle opens and closes.
It makes for a very neat show piece, and has now become our solemn reason why everything needs a Small Block. You just can’t do this with your Ecotec four-cylinder, kids.
Have a look at the killer video, which we’ve provided down below.

That reminds me of the Renwal (now Revell) Visible V8 kit I built in 1963. But the oil splashing coats the covers and blocks the view. And if some had their way with the money, some of the other engine parts can be assembled with clear parts (ceramic, quartz, or plastic), but the oil and coolant will block most of the view while running.
Imagine a clear oil pan. You can see the oil level while at rest and watch the crankshaft rotating while running. Some labs do have a quartz window in the cylinder to watch the spark and combustion.
This reminds me of hot oil burning and spraying as I adjust valves on small block as I adjust the valves.
These covers have been around for a while and they get gunked up. It is a neat novelty at first but most often get replaced.
