This Could Be The Most Adorable Petition Letter GM Has Ever Received

General Motors CEO Mary Barra has just seen yet another very large, pressing decision cross her desk; six year-old Rafael Barkan from Southern California has sent her a petition, urging the automaker to reintroduce the Chevrolet El Camino into the domestic market.

You know what they say about that six-to-twelve year-old lobby; they apply the pressure.

This particular lobbyist is craftily applying cuteness to his advantage. Just check out the following letter he sent to the CEO:

As Road & Track reports, Rafael’s obsession with cars began with – what else – collecting Hot Wheels toy cars. Since catching the gearhead bug, he’s become a young expert at identifying all sorts of different makes and models. In fact, he stumps his father – who isn’t a “car guy” – on a regular basis. His father remarked: “Rafael and I bike to school together every day, and that’s when he asks so many questions about car models and makes. ‘Which gets better mileage? Which is faster? Which is more reliable? Is that an antique?’ I don’t know most of the answers.”

The goal with little Rafael’s petition is to collect enough signatures to show Ms. Barra that the US market would prove supportive of a new El Camino, if Chevrolet were to put the car into production. You can climb aboard the El Camino train at ipetitions.com, and help put pressure on GM to make this thing a reality.

  6. GM killed the El Camino only because it thought it could make more money selling gas-guzzling trucks. In the 1990’s, that seemed like a brilliant move. Not today.

Today the cute ute is selling in droves because it offers cargo room without guzzling too much gas. Problem is, there is no SMALL pickup. The new Colorado/Canyon is still a midsize vehicle. There is simply no open-cargo workhorse in North America sized like the old LUV. A modern El Camino should be an easy vehicle to implement.

Urban buyers simply don’t have room for the behemoth trucks that GM and Ford are trying to sell, so it’s time to bring it back.
