Gary Pratt and Jim Miller teamed up to create Pratt & Miller Engineering in 1989 after they met while competing as drivers in the Trans-Am series. They first came in contact with General Motors in the early 90s during development of the Intrepid RM-1, which Chevrolet had expressed interest in, and sparked a long and fruitful motorsports partnership.
Pratt & Miller didn’t officially sign on as GM’s official factory racing partner until 1999, when the automaker chose them to develop and construct the C5-R. The C5-R was to be GM’s new factory-backed Corvette Racing program’s first car, and was designed to compete in GT races in North America and, most importantly to GM, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Corvette Racing and C5-R went on to capture third place in their second season of United States Road Racing competition, but they were just getting started. A year later, the team won at Le Mans, and followed it up with six more class wins at Le Sarthe in both the C5-R and C6.R.
This year is Pratt and Miller’s 25th anniversary, and they’ve put together an interesting and rather captivating documentary about their long road to success. Corvette Racing or motorsports fans will find its 15 minute running time worth the watch, so check it out below.
