General Motors has debuted several major additions to its OnStar services at this year’s Consumer Elctronics Show in Las Vegas, including a new in-car shopping feature called ‘AtYour Service’, Fortune Magazine reports.
OnStar AtYourService will be able to connect drivers with retailers and provide them with general information on stores or restaurants and sometimes get them deals on coupons. The feature will also be able to make hotel reservations, helpful if you’re on-the-go. The system is GPS-based, and recognizes participating retailers and hotels in your area when travelling.
OnStar has partnered with several retailers for the AtYourService feature, including Dunkin’ Donuts and Priceline.com. Other companies like RetailMeNot and Entertainment Book will provide coupons, and Audiobooks.com will supply certain audio book content. Additionally, Parkopedia will enable OnStar to provide users with helpful parking information.
This feature joins OnStar’s new Continuous Vehicle Diagnostics Service, which will continuously monitor a car’s health and predict the failure of a component. Both features, which will become available on certain GM products for the 2016 model year, are representative of an automotive industry experiencing a continuous trend towards connected vehicles.
