General Motors 650 horsepower 6.2-liter LT4 V8 used in the 2015 Corvette Z06 is built at its Tonawanda Engine Plant in, you guessed it, Tonawanda, New York. The facility is also responsible for assembling its EcoTec3 4.3-liter V6, EcoTec3 5.3- and 6.2-liter V8s, Ecotec 2.0- and 2.5-liter four-cylinders and the 6.2-liter LT1 V8. Speed Academy recently took a trip to the plant, and of all the engine build processes they could have documented, they unsurprisingly chose the LT4.
The beginning of the LT4 build process starts when the machined block is treated by a special CNC machine. Then the pistons, rods, crankshaft and other key components are installed by hand, followed by the valvetrain, and of course, the 1.7-liter supercharger.
Speed Academy’s short documentary below explains the whole LT4 build process better than we ever could, so check it out below if you have 11 minutes to spare.

Impressive setup.
My LT4 was assembled by one builder (Mike Priest) … all Z06s with Z07 package are built that way in BG and like the LS7s that go in the Z/28s you get a little plaque on the engine with the builder’s name.
Wherever one’s LT4 is assembled, it’s a a rocket and a blast to drive.
Wow, and I was thinking of making my own engine in my garage with only an anvil and a hammer.
One video says the LT4 2015 Corvette z06 engine is produced in Tonowanda? The other video says it is built in Bowling Green at the engine factory. Did I miss something? Who’s telling the truth?
I was thinking the same thing. For all those curious, here’s the other video:
The Z07 package LT4s are built in BG by one engine builder and get a plaque (as well as the LS7s), the non Z07 package LT4s are built on the assembly line in Tonowanda. I thought I said as much in the first comment. 🙂
so there is no plaque on the Z06 LT4?
