By The Numbers - Sales Results - December 2014 - Canada - GM Total
Elroy, the issue with GM truck versus Chevy truck sales in Canada is that GM trucks get a few key features and bolder/sportier designs for a couple of bucks more money. The fact the Sierra is a bolder, more macho/sportier looking, has a few features like HID headlamps with LED lighting on most models (rather than Projector headlamps on LTZ and High Country only on Silverado’s), sportier wheels (blacked out, etc), rock guard plastic molding around the fender wells, and a couple other features and are really within a few dollars of the Silverado, who wouldn’t lean towards the Sierra.
Also look at the Canyon versus Colorado. Canyon gets full color screen DIC, soft material covered dash, full autotrac system and a couple more things are basically within $1000-1500 of the Colorado.
Canada also does not have the love affair with Nascar like the US does where everything in the US is Chevy. That also plays a large part.
The US Silverado vs Sierra options are the same, the options may be packaged slightly different, but each sub-model in the hierarchy is comparable Country:Country.
Canada likes Cadillac and GMC… and Mazda. I read last year that Cadillac and GMC also have the best resale in Ontario than anywhere (or almost anywhere) else in North America.
The Sierra looks a lot better than the Silverado. They could also just stop insulting people’s intelligence and sell one truck, instead of conveying a appearance of selling two that in reality are identical mechanically.
They also need to make the 6.2 / 8 speed available across all trim levels. Right now you can only get that if you in the $60k “luxury truck” market. What about the people who actually work for a living and use their trucks like trucks? Why are they left with the asthmatic 4.3 and 5.3? I am pretty sure you can order a plain jane F series with an Ecoboost V6… .

There is a lesson here for the US — more GMC dealers ASAP. Sierra outsells Silverado and GMC — without cars — is 605 of total Chevrolet sales.

“They also need to make the 6.2 / 8 speed available across all trim levels”
volume constrained I believe. It will come.
