Five Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototypes from three different entrants will field in this year’s Tudor United SportsCar Championship, set to kick off on January 24 and 25 for the 53rd annual Rolex 24 at Daytona. Action Express Racing, who took last year’s Prototype championship, will return with two cars, while Wayne Taylor Racing and VisitFlorida.com Racing will also return with their respective machines.
Last year, Chevrolet Corvette DPs won six out 11 Tudor USCC races and occupied the top three positions in both the Driver’s and Team championships. The Corvette DP also helped Chevy secure the engine manufacturer’s championship for last year’s Tudor season.
“The results from the 2014 Tudor United SportsCar Championship continued our championship efforts from the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series,” Mark Kent, Chevrolet’s Director of Racing, said in a statement. “The expectation for the 2015 season is to add to those successes. We have three partner teams with championship pedigrees, and we look forward to working together to lead Chevrolet to another Prototype Engine Manufacturer title.”
The Corvette DPs will look a bit different this year, adopting new Chevrolet bodywork that is more reminiscent of the C7 Corvette. The 5.5-liter Chevrolet LS9 V8 will likely remain unchanged for the 2015 season, apart from a new engine management system from Bosch Motorsport. Keep an eye for them during this weekend’s “Roar Before the 24” testing event, which has been described as the 24 Hours of Daytona’s official “dress rehearsal.”
