Building on the sort of “meat and potatoes” that Chevrolet established with the 2016 Volt‘s improved look, drivetrain, and battery pack, the #NextGenVolt also adds a number of safety features to help keep the gas-backup EV safely on the road.
The video below, released by Chevrolet to accompany the new 2016 Volt’s public unveiling, lists off the most notable of these features. The second-generation car comes equipped not only with Lane-Departure Warning, which sounds off a gentle alarm to the driver when the Volt senses that it’s tracking out of its lane, but also Lane-Keep Assist, which will gently steer the car back in-line if the driver doesn’t take any action to correct.
The second-generation Chevrolet Volt also has improved safety in the event that its additional preventative measures aren’t enough. There are a total 10 airbags in the cabin, and the video also cites an improved crash structure (though we can’t yet comment on the effectiveness of the latter).
That just about wraps up our complete coverage of the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, America’s best-selling EV. Though needless to say, we’ll come right out with more information, as it becomes available.
