2015 GMC Canyon Nightfall Edition Is The Shadow Of NAIAS

Okay. So, as it turns out, the “Nightfall” trademark filing turned out to be for a blacked-out 2015 GMC Canyon and not the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. Though we were definitely in the right ball park: a blacked-out GM midsize truck.

The 2015 GMC Canyon Nightfall Edition will only be offered on SLE crew cab models, in either 2WD or 4WD configuration, and will be available starting Q2 2015. The hue is Onyx Black, complimented by a unique black grille and blackened assist steps exclusive to the package. The 2015 Canyon Nightfall Edition also throws in a factory-installed spray-in bedliner, 18-inch multi-spoke aluminum wheels with Dark Argent painted inserts, a polished exhaust tip, automatic climate control and remote start.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody that personalization in the truck market is more substantial than other segments. And given that the Canyon and Colorado are very “personal” trucks, we’d expect the rate at which they’re personalized to be even higher than on other pickup trucks. To wit, 40 percent of initial GMC Canyon orders were tailored with at least one accessory, such as the GearOn system, cargo accessories, or styling enhancements. So, just like the 2015 GMC Sierra, a cosmetic package such as the 2015 GMC Canyon Nightfall should grab a lot of attention in the segment. Look for the shadowy pickup in the GMC exhibit at the 2015 North American International Auto Show next week.

  3. Yeah – now put the LT4 motor in it, lower it a bit, put a Hotchkis type suspension under it, and make it a hot street truck like the old Dakota R/T with 5.9L engine in a 2 door Regular Cab or Club Cab . I’d buy one tomorrow.

  4. Is there some reason GMC left the shiny wheels and chrome window strip?

A “special” package needs something that isn’t available in the regular order book.

If GMC wants to offer a new performance Syclone pickup, then:
    1) drop 300+ pounds
    2) tune the suspension for road grip
    3) improve the wheels and tires for greater traction, which will likely necessitate flared wheel arches to be legal
    4) offer a 2-door cab
    4) offer a manual or a dual-clutch transmission
    5) improve aerodynamics wherever possible with real parts, not cheesy plastic tack-ons. A tonneau cover might be a good standard package inclusion…
    6) add power
    7) DO NOT offer offroad options like towing package, front tow hooks, roll bars, winches, etc, as that dilutes the message. That belongs in the option book for the special offroad edition that you offer.

Then, and only then, will you get my interest, GMC.
