“There’s no replacement for displacement,” or so the saying goes. But this drag race between a Corvette C7 Z06 and a Dodge SRT Viper T/A (Time-Attack) does a rather convincing job of proving otherwise.
On paper, this one’s too close to call. The Dodge clearly has a greater displacement at a gargantuan 8.4-liters, but without the benefit of a forced-induction system like the Corvette Z06 has. This puts the two cars within spitting distance of each others’ horsepower figures – 640 in the Dodge, versus 650 in the Z06.
So let’s move on to weight. The Dodge SRT Viper T/A ought to come in somewhere just under 3,300 pounds, versus over 3,500 for the Corvette Z06. That’s sizable enough to earn Dodge a check-mark for the weight advantage. An automatic transmission might push our favor back toward the Corvette Z06, but this particular example doesn’t have one; it’s the 7-speed manual, versus the Dodge’s 6-speed. Let’s call that a draw.
So who wins? Is a lower weight and bigger engine enough to rocket the Dodge to victory? Watch the video to find out:
