2015 Corvette Stingray Takes Down A Tesla Model S P85D: Video

In a shocking twist of events, a 2015 Corvette Stingray has taken down the mighty Tesla Model S P85D. We say shocking because the Corvette is at a disadvantage in this battle.

The Corvette Stingray is bone-stock, making a solid 455-horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Normally, a Corvette Stingray would be quicker than most anything you’d encounter at your local stoplight, but it’s a tad different at the dragstrip.

The Tesla Model S P85D packs its instant torque punch with all-wheel-drive putting down 691-horsepower and a colossal 687 pound-feet or torque. Normally, the Tesla would leave the Corvette in its rearview, but that’s not the case here.

It looks as if the Corvette gets the jump off the line, and we’re not sure if we’re looking at a Stingray with the 8-speed automatic or 7-speed manual, but some superb shifting happens to hold the Tesla off in the quarter mile.

The C7 Corvette clocks in at 11.67 seconds, while the Tesla begins creeping up and crossing the line at 11.79 seconds. Well done ‘Vette driver.

Check out the race in the video down below.

  1. Welp, doesn’t this make that hellcat driver look stupid LOL

  2. The world has changed when an ICE vehicle is proud to beat an EV. Its evident that ICE vehicles are on their way out. Enjoy your last moments of glory.

    1. We’re not proud of the corvette for beating an EV, we’re proud of the corvette for beating an AWD car with 50% more hp and torque. That is quite the accomplishment.
Beating an EV is just icing on the cake

      1. You shouldn’t be proud knowing the Model S is more than 1,000 lbs heavier than the Corvette!

“It looks as if the Corvette gets the jump off the line…”

If both drivers were equal in drag racing experience, the Model S would easily beat the Corvette.

        1. Such is the life of having an EV vehicle, Batteries are heavy, but it’s not the corvette fault, must be fanboi of EV.

          1. It’s GM’s fault for making the Corvette slower than a 4 door sedan that is more than 1,000 lbs heavier.

  3. If the Corvette was using the 7 Speed Automatic, then this would have been quite something.

In the 2015 Stingray, the 8 Speed Automatic is faster than the 7 Speed Manual, as it capable of 0-60 in under 3 seconds easily, where the 7 Speed Manual is in the low 3s.

PS If this was the 2015 Stingray, doesn’t it have 650 of horsepower? Or is everyone calling all Corvette models Stingray instead of just reserving the name for the Z06 models?

  4. This is clearly NOT a stock C7 Corvette Stingray as that goes from 0-60 in 3.9 sec. and runs the quarter mile in 12.2 sec. The 2015 C7 with the 8-speed does 0-60 in 3.7 sec. And finishes the quarter in 11.9 sec. The P85D can do 0-60 as low as 3.1 sec. and the quarter in 11.6 sec.

Interesting to note is the fact that the Stingray is a two seat dedicated sports car whereas the Tesla Model S P85D is a very large and heavy four door saloon. When Tesla debuts a 2-seat AWD hypercar, it will be mindblowingly fast – like Porsche 918 fast.

    1. True that this is a full size sedan, but a 2 seat awd car as powerful as the p85d will require about as much weight in batteries still. Although Panasonic has already started making 4ah 18650 cells that Tesla isn’t using yet (30% more capacity in same volume/weight!). Once those better batteries come into play, it’ll be near impossible to beat the power output Tesla could fit into those cars( 0-60 in 2.5seconds or even better!)

    2. Not true, the Z06 C7 clocks in 0 to 60 @ 2.9 seconds.

      1. This was not a Z06. It was a modified C7…

  5. Well this article is misleading, the video even states the corvette is not stock.

  6. The model s does not make 691 hp. The motors can handle that but the batteries cannot supply it. It has nearly the same hp as the p85. The only difference is how quickly it reaches peak hp and more traction. Do a rolling race from 30 mph with the D and non D. It would be a near tie.

      Do your research.
That race was a fluke either the Model S was not completely charged or he didn’t have it in insane mode

      1. Tell me how? It says motor hp. Does the battery magically put out more power? Do you have proof? Perhaps a dyno run North of even 450 hp? I am willing to agree but would like to see proof. Look at all the races. It falls off compared to 500+ hp cars because they are more powerful.

        1. I see a lot of thumbs down but no response to my ” motor power” response. I am a huge fan of Tesla and have been for a while. I do however think the motor power listed is misleading and dislike all the articles listing it. Wait until a new chemistry that allows a higher c rating or just a larger capacity. This will be a system hp of 691. There will be a huge jump in performance. It’s like a chain. The weakest link is the battery at probably 470hp. Once again if I am wrong I am wrong. Just show me proof. A dyno run close to 691. The single speed drive unit is very efficient and should be well into the 600’s.

          1. Easy the 85Kh pack can produce over 2000 amps at 400 volts. 2000 *400 = 800,000 watts. 1 hp is about 740 watts. so the theoretical power output = 800,000 / 740 = 1081 hp….

    2. If you read the comments on the YouTube page, the original poster admits the Corvette was most likely not stock.

TheAutoHaven “Also the stingray most likely has a couple bolt on modifications given the et and trap speed.”

  7. This is awesome. Don’t care which won, EVs are definitely adding to the fun and a great hedge against energy issues. Bring the costs down so we can all play.

  8. Still kind of close at the end? Are we really bragging when a Vette barely beats a four door EV?

If I had the money, I’d pick the car with the backseat and without the Freudian implications. A good American company to support if you have the means. Tesla is young and vibrant where GM is old and tired and on life support.

    1. Speaking of life support.

      1. What do you mean? Of course I meant the bailout. Companies are like people. I can handle incompetent people. I can handle people who feel entitled and don’t pay their debts. I just don’t care for people who are incompetent and also feel entitled and don’t pay their debts.

The purchase of a GM vehicle today is a vote against American ideals and a vote for unions, incompetence, and entitlement.

        1. I should explain myself.

EV’s are the future. I just don’t believe that Tesla will single-handedly do it alone, nor do I believe that GM is ignorant of Teslas efforts and the public demand for EV’s.

          1. EV’s are not the future, they are the present.

    2. Magirus you are obviously not a “car” guy. The new vette is on the cutting edge of technology, just not EV technology. EV Is not for everyone. At many car shows I have repeatedly heard them described as boring and sounding like a large vibrator. Believe me the Freudian implications are already being voiced! And if you really need the back seat buy a car with balls like a charger hellcat.

      1. I would drive a P85D and then see if you still think they are boring….

      2. You must have sh*t music taste. I listen to good music in my car, the Tesla making no noise is the ultimate sound studio for music. There are only a few cars that sound good, everything else sounds like crap and should be silent.

Tesla smokes literally every car making no noise, thats embarrassing for every car with a roaring engine struggling to keep or catch up to a car accelerating away silently, especially being a heavyweight sedan LMAO!

  10. Jon the p85d has a second motor up front with 221 hp and 471 hp in the rear for a total of 691. This also makes it all wheel drive which adds to its launch ability. It is rated at 687 lb. ft of torque, however it was independently dyno at 864 lbs.

Tesla has also stated that it will release an update that will enable higher speed torque access which will improve its quarter and may push its 0-60 below 3sec.

  11. Obviously this article is biased, just look at the website it’s published on. Look at the source before you accept all the “facts.” Either that Vette had angels in the outfield, or it was heavily modified.
