NASCAR team owner and motorsports mainstay Rick Hendrick has a habit of picking up the first examples of notable Chevys. He scooped up the very first production 2014 Camaro Z/28 for $500,000, and also bought the first C7 coupe and convertible for $1.1 million and $1 million, respectively.
Earlier this year Hendrick dropped another $1 million the first 2015 Corvette Z06 to roll off the production line. The first Z06 deliveries began this week, so Hendrick popped on over to the National Corvette Museum to take ownership of his black-on-black ‘Vette, which he says “felt like Christmas.”
All of the money from the purchase of the cars benefits charities, with the money for the Z06 going to the Karmanos Cancer Institute. When Hendrick bought the car at Barret-Jackson in April, he was actually buying the rights to the first car, which is why the car on the auction block was yellow and not black. Hendrick also bought a silver example though, which he says is the one he will drive.
