A 2015 Chevrolet Colorado truck giveaway, a surprise return for a father and veteran and a family reunited in need of a truck, all wrapped into one brought tears and smiles at the 2014 Army-Navy game.
U.S. Army Sgt. Jonathon Preston Thompson along with Wish for Our Heroes surprised his wife and daughter during a presentation about the truck.  To Mrs. Thompson’s surprise, the stadium announcer said the truck was for them. Shocked by this announcement and flanked by former General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson, she didn’t see her husband hop out of the rear seats with a big teddy bear in tow. The double surprise overwhelmed them both.
The truck is timely for the family with Sgt. Thompson returning from two deployments through Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Also, the family is still recovering from a fire at their home in Fort Riley, Kan.
The Wish for Our Heroes organization helps U.S. military men and women by providing resources to families focused on basic needs non-military families take for granted. It was founded by Jeff Wells in Noblesville, Ind., in 2009 and grants wishes in 48 out of 50 states.
“We join with Chevrolet in welcoming Sgt. Thompson home as we continue our work to help military men and women and their families,” said Wells. “Our charter calls for assistance wherever and whenever possible to these heroes – it’s what we work toward every day.”
