Next-Generation Opel Astra Will Not Be Ready For Geneva Motor Show

Despite all our excited anticipation, it would seem as though the next-generation 2016 Opel Astra is not bound for the Geneva Motor Show as we’d previously anticipated (and hoped).

It’s been over 8 months since the first spy photos of the redesigned Astra went online, but according to Automotive News, an Opel representative has announced that the 2016 Astra will not bow at Geneva in March, 2015. It’s unclear whether that decision has been made in order to continue development, or to clear the lime-lit Opel stage for another premier.

Automotive News quoted the unnamed official on the decision: “There will be no Astra at Geneva Motor Show, where our major world premiere will [be] the Opel KARL (Vauxhall Viva for UK), our new min-5 door entry model.” The new Astra is said to draw heavily from the Opel Monza concept, though it will share its proportions with the current Astra.

You can see video of the next-generation Opel Astra (gently) carving up some public roads in a recent post.

  1. There is no point for Opel to show two world premieres at Geneva. It will be Frankfurt Car show this year which is not very far from Opel HQ.
