While we have yet to get personally acquainted with the impossibly elevated Corvette Z06 – much less fall out-of-love with it – there is another supercharged menace wearing the ‘Vette’s checkered flags: the Hennessey Corvette HPE700.
The “700” in its name refers to its horsepower figure, torque figure (in ft-lbs), and quantity on a scale of 1 to 10 of how much we’re dying to get behind the wheel.
This automotive rocketship recently dropped in on the Essen Motor Show in Germany, presumably to drunkenly boast about its glorious performance: 3.2 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph). That may be dead-even with the manual-equipped Z06‘s claimed numbers, and 0.3 seconds slower than one with an automatic, but it does this while still achieving 17 mpg combined – one higher than the Z06. Plus, top speed is theoretically increased.
As Autoevolution reports, the HPE700 which appeared at Essen (not pictured here) also wears Hennessey’s CarbonAero spoilers, front and rear, plus a gorgeous, arching rear wing, rear diffuser, and forged wheels from HRE.
The Corvette Stingray is already being sold in Germany, with a sticker price of 74,500 Euros for the base model (about $92,000 American). It seems to us that if you’re going to chop that much lettuce for a new Corvette, you might as well get the (warrantied) Hennessey HPE700 treatment. Your lead foot will thank us.
