It’s an oft-contemplated question in the battle for race track dominance: which poses more of a threat – accuracy, or firepower?
That’s essentially the question posed by this Motor Trend comparison between the Porsche 911 GT3, and the Camaro Z/28. On the one hand, you have a well-engineered, tech-savvy, precise racing machine with poise and lineage. And on the other, you have nearly 4,000 pounds of all-American muscle.
Sure enough, the Porsche-vs.-Camaro comparison seems like a pointless one when you consider the two cars’ respective sticker prices, with the 911 GT3 costing nearly double the price of the Camaro Z/28 (slightly more than double as-tested). But in the Porsche, a lot of that coin is going into electronic driver aids, and refinement – non-essentials for posting ridiculously fast lap times, which the Camaro is perfectly suited for.
To sum up Carlos Lago’s sentiments about the two cars, the Porsche 911 GT3 delivers superior driver satisfaction, where the Camaro Z/28 just repeatedly punches you in the back of the head. In fact, he insists, the appeal of the Z/28 is largely what it can do in spite of its weight and size.
But which car posts the better lap time at Willow Springs? And which offers the better fun-per-dollar ratio? Watch the comparison to find out:
