A Look At Chevrolet’s LT4 And LS7 Small Block Engines: Video

You may find yourself thinking that there’s too many Small Blocks. And that it’s hard to keep track of LT1, L79, and such. And it seems that every year a new code pops up that was used previously in another iteration. But relax a bit − let’s focus on one thing at a time because that’s the easy way to learn Chevrolet‘s alphabet soup. Today’s lesson will be on the LT4 supercharged V8 in the 2015 Corvette Z06 and LS7 NA V8 in the Camaro Z/28 courtesy of Engineering Explained.

The LT4 powers the 2015 Corvette Z06:

  • 6.2L
  • Supercharged
  • 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque

The LS7 powers the 2015 Camaro Z/28:

  • 7.0L
  • Naturally aspirated
  • 505 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque

The below video tours Chevrolet’s Performance Build Center, which is located within the Corvette Factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Give yourself nine minutes to learn how each of the small-blocks are built and how they are similar/different.

  1. What is the difference (besides 7.0L and 6.2L) in these 2 engines? What does the LT have that the LS engines do not? The 2015 Z06 has the LT4 but the same sized 6.2L in the 2015 Camaro ZL1 has a LS7. Supposedly the new Camro will support an LT1 engine. What’s this LT vs LS stuff all about? Thanks.
