Even for those Americans who have never heard of Opel, or perhaps mistakenly believe that it’s a luxurious, European maker of high quality earrings and pendants, the marque is about to become internet-famous in about a week; the 2015 Opel Corsa calendar starring the fluffy, lovable Birman cat Choupette goes on-sale on December 17th.
For this promotional calendar, Opel hired photographer Karl Lagerfeld to create a series of still images with which to fill the pages, exploring every detail of the car’s interior and exterior one month at a time. Only, Mr. Lagerfeld was bored with the familiar super model-with-car trope that’s been standard practice for eons – presumably since the ancient Greeks first started making promotional calendars for all the latest chariots.
So, the photographer politely asked if his Birman cat Choupette would pose for the camera, and she kindly obliged. The 12 best images to come out of that shoot will adorn the pages of the 2015 Opel Corsa calendar. The picture above depicts the front cover of the calendar, which features a large portrait of Choupette, hand-drawn by Mr. Lagerfeld.
The calendar will go on sale for 33.50 Euros, including Germany’s VAT, but will likely be available for free wherever internet is being.
