Chevrolet unveiled their 2015 Colorado ZR2 concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week, a rugged, off-road ready take on the brand’s new midsize truck. Those of you who were hoping for a worthy successor to the S10 ZR2 will welcome this new version with open arms, but how did Chevrolet go from the standard Colorado to the ZR2 concept?
Chevrolet’s reveal video for the ZR2 provides a little insight on the matter. Lead designer Tyler Moffett started by inspecting the Colorado’s body panels from front to back, deciding where improvements could be made to provide an adequate off-road driving experience. He then pulled inspiration from natural landscapes and worked on making the ZR2 more aggressive-looking than the standard truck.
We’re pretty fans of the result, and even bigger fans of the planned 2.8-liter diesel powertrain. Check out the video below and keep your fingers crossed that the ZR2 gets the green light for production.

I would hate to be an Engineer for GM. They design things like the Revolutionary 4.5 Duramax, only to watch Dodge take the Crown for 1/2 ton MPG on diesel trucks, 7 years after the 4.5 could have been in production. Now they design the Colorado ZR2 but in will never go in to production. You may ask how I know. Because once they design something that I would buy, they never produce it. I know GM as the company that cries WOLF. What a TEASER.
