For the second year in a row, the Holden VF Commodore SV6 has won the Australia’s Best Cars award for “Best Large Car Under $70,000” based on its performance, value, and award-winning in-car infotainment system. Experienced vehicle judges from clubs across Australia awarded points based on 18 criteria including vehicle handling, cost, and environmental performance.
The Commodore SV6’s ride and handling prowess bears special mention, which was developed at Holden’s Lang Lang Proving Ground in Oz. It also distinguished itself from its rivals via superior cost of ownership and fuel economy, with the latter being just over 26 mpg at 62 mph.
According to Holden’s Executive Director of Corporate Affairs, George Svigos, “The VF Commodore is the most advanced car ever built in Australia. The SV6 is a great looking car and it offers exhilarating power in the form of our 3.6 litre V6 engine and well-connected in-car technology with MyLink#. It is also one of the safest cars around, boasting a maximum 5-star ANCAP rating and ISOFIX child seat anchorage system.”

40k car winning in an up to 70k comparison, it needs to be good
What was it offically up against?
Ford Falcon, Toyota Aurion, Chrysler 300, Peogeut 508 etc.
This is great, but it makes me sad at the same time. GM took all the great things Holden did in engineering and manufacturing and are now pulling the plug. I understand there are financial and economic forces at work, but it sucks. The Commodore is a great car and a bargain to boot. Thank you Australia for my amazing G8!
A lot of ex-Holden engineers are working with GM’s competitors now as well. Despite also closing manufacturing Ford has decided to keep a significant engineering base in Australia and are actually expanding it. There was an article in Carsguide yesterday in which the head of Ford engineering APAC pretty much stated that they are likely to hire a large chunk of the Holden engineers that are getting sacked before Christmas.
It’s GM’s loss.
And now the au/us exchange rate is in the low 80’s so the price of anything imported will now go up.
