Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo Concept: Hot or Not?

When we saw Chevrolet was teaming up with legendary racecar manufacturer Chaparral to build its Vision Gran Turismo concept, we knew the outcome was going to be a little zany. We weren’t quite prepared for anything as wild as a single-seater racecar with a laser-driven propulsion system, but we love the thought and creativity behind the project.

Chevrolet may have a life-size model of its Chaparral 2X Vision GT on the floor of the Los Angeles auto show, but the 2X is still a completely fictional car. The driver lies face down, with his or her legs spread out towards the wheels, similar to a sky diver’s form. The engine pulses light beams into a shroud to create shockwaves, which in turn produces 900 horsepower’s worth of thrust.

In the virtual racing world of Gran Turismo, the 2X will hit 240 mph and sprint from 0-60 mph in 1.5 seconds. It looks about as fictional as its propulsion system is, but fans of sci-fi movies will have an easy time warming up to its futuristic styling. We think the 2X is hot, just for the simple reason that haven’t seen anything like it before. How about you?
