Car Clash: 2016 ATS-V Coupe vs. ATS-V Sedan

The only thing rivaling Kim Kardashian for media attention in Los Angeles this week is Cadillac’s 2016 ATS-V. It wowed us in leaked pictures, and wowed the crowd of journalists on hand to witness its live debut Tuesday night. But which one is more popular, the ATS-V coupe, or the ATS-V sedan?

There’s really no wrong answer here. Both cars come with General Motors’ new twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter LF4 V6, which produces a significant 455 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. Both are available with a six-speed manual transmission or eight-speed automatic, depending on how you want to go about shifting the gears, and both are available with a functional aerodynamics package that will spend most of its time just making the car look cooler.

For us, the sedan takes this edition of Car Clash. We love the coupe’s aggressive profile, but there’s something irresistibly cool about a fast four-door. Which one would you rather walk out to in the morning?

  1. ATS-V Coupe all day long. Seeing both in person at the launch event Tuesday night, the Coupe had the WOW factor that the Sedan just didn’t have. Nobody seemed to really care about the Sedan, but everyone was crowded around the Coupe! The CTS-V was the same way. Nobody cares about the CTS-V Sedan, but the CTS-V Coupe is a true head turner. The ATS-V Coupe is going to be a hit seller among V-Series buyers for sure!

  2. The sedan in blue as shown in the release video.

    It’s unmatched.

  3. I love the coupe but the sedan will be the sales winner. That is just how the public buys anymore.

    I too love the Blue.

  4. The only thing I don’t like about ATS V is the rear spoiler both coupe and sedan.

    1. I agree but I think we will find out that when more info is released that is looks as it does because it really works vs. many others that are just styled.

GM has of late been doing a lot of real aero management on their cars. The C7 and the Z/28 both are showing things that really work vs. just for show. I suspect that there was a lot of time on the aero here. Not so much for just down force but for balance on the car at higher speeds. Cars built for track time can get a little weird around 140 MPH and up and controlling the air flow vs. just down force can provide a much more stable car at speed.

Now the Z06 has real down force to the point it may even slow it down a little but it has enough speed to give a little for down force.

It will be interesting when we get closer to the release and they give more real technical detail. I think there is a lot more going on here than we have been told to this point. This car has a lot of engineering in it vs. just slapping on some sticky tires and a few wings to make it a performance car.

  5. I did not vote yet considering how beautiful they both were and could not change my mind on which to choose.

I will be happy to take both of them without the track package since it deletes the sunroof and other needed options to make this car not as luxurious. The standard trim on the V-Series on both cars will make them stellar without the track package and satisfy most people on a daily basis. However for a more extreme experience, you can’t go wrong opting for the track package as well.

  6. Both are quite attractive, but for practicality purposes, I’ll go for the sedan. I really like that blue paint also! But the crystal white of the coupe is definitely a looker as well!
