Cadillac’s Response To The BMW 5-Series GT Rendered

BMW’s 5-Series Gran Turismo is one of the more confusing vehicles to come from the German automaker. The model, which is also available as a smaller 3-Series GT, is referred to by BMW as a “Progressive Activity Sedan,” and provides more trunk capacity, interior space and headroom compared to the standard 5-Series.

There’s no way Cadillac can provide an answer to all of BMW’s, Mercedes’ and Audi’s models, so they need to pick which ideas they green-light carefully. BMW’s 5- and 3-Series GT models aren’t really hot sellers, but that didn’t stop CarScoops from rendering Cadillac’s possible CTS-based response to the car anyways.

We’re a bit confused by this render, as it doesn’t look like there’s any additional headroom like the 5-Series GT. Instead, this appears to be a lifted CTS with additional trunk space and some rugged plastic cladding. Hatchbacks and station wagons are already a tough sell in the American market, so this whacky-looking wagon/sedan/hatchback mashup probably wouldn’t fly over here. We have a better chance of receiving a second-gen CTS Sport Wagon, and even that is extremely far-fetched.

Check out the renderings here and let us know what you think in the comments.

  2. Are we sure this BMW will sell in Europe?

This is a case where I would wait to see if it even draws interest in the old country before I invest in this one.

I think a small wagon for Europe on the ATS and then leave a couple thousand here for fun would be the best choice for now. You know the Wagon will sell there and no need to make to many here but at least offer some for those who want it.

  3. GMauthority, you guys are kidding right?

That rendering is from MonaroSS from GM Insidenews. That guy is talented in his renderings but a lot of his renderings are over-exaggerated and at times off-putting that I don’t like any of his work.

You guys should of went to GM Insidenews to source from it and write a blog instead of going to Carscoops where they went right to the source. That is how rumors get started.

    1. Thanks for setting things straight. These guys need to do their homework better. His rendering is a good idea and I’m sure if GM were to do something like it they would work out the styling details that some seem to think he didn’t get quite right.

      1. How many time have I already pointed out that they were not even close on something just to draw you in and click to fine out.

While it is nice to have a site that caters to the GM fan it would be better if they would do a little more digging.

Too often the readers here have a better clue than some of the writers. I know it is tough to meet quotas but that is not an excuse to mislead.

  4. Rorschach test: “lol” and “wtf”

It’s worse than the 5GT, who knew that was possible.. well X6 i guess. That no doubt took time to do, but zero effort involved.

  6. They could do something like the Subaru Outback and Crosstrek – just give it AWD, a small lift, and bigger tires. Minimal cost for a semi-SUV look for those who want it. They won’t sell a lot of them, but it wouldn’t be much of an investment, either. Might keep a few brand loyalists from switching.

  7. The rear is so wrong , why can’t Cadillac ever understate the whole exterior for once ?? European cars all make a open and generous greenhouse to give great visibility through all windows . Get the designer of this effort to take away the plastic insert , add a curved larger rear window that meets the trunkline the same height as the side beltline trim . I know it may be hard for a high priced designer to realize this , but in this class of refined vehicle , that often LESS IS MORE !!!

  8. If there was a choice between this and a Cadillac CTS wagon, I think the execs at Cadillac would still go for the wagon. Yes, they’re a hard sell, but people are more familiar with wagons then “lifted” sedans basically. And btw… That’s probably the most hideous concept car I’ve ever seen.
