The 2014 Corvette Stingray has won the Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) award for “Best Performance Coupe.” The award was handed down to Chevrolet during a special event on November 20 at the Meydan Beach Club in Dubai.
The MECOTY awards are decided by a panel of credible and diverse jurors with strong influence on the automotive industry in the Middle East, General Motors says. The Best Performance Coupe category was decided based on many different parameters including design, quality, handling, drivability, safety, durability, performance, capability, emotional appeal, driver satisfaction, comfort, practicality, environmental impact and regional appeal.
MECOTY says they guarantee an “unequivocally transparent nomination and scoring process – developed, tested and implemented by the region’s top motoring experts.” According to their website, the only other car judged in the Performance Coupe category was the Dodge Viper. Other GM vehicles nominated for MECOTY awards in their respective segments include the 2014 Cadillac CTS and Cadillac Escalade.
