1971 Long Bed GMC Truck Shows Targa Newfoundland Race What’s Up: Video

Trucks can’t be fast, can’t race and are about as aerodynamic as a barn. All of this and more was overheard when a 1971 GMC C/K long bed pickup entered into the 2014 Targa Newfoundland. Turns out the haters were wrong. It finished second.

Truck haters suck it is the message behind a video done by the #6 team of Mark Bovey and Miles Markovic. The video shows all the negative words they heard before they entered the race with their long bed truck.

As for the truck, if you close your eyes, you would be forgiven for mistaking it for a sports car. With a 427 LSX engine, race wheels and a sweet exhaust sound, the “truck” is anything like a truck. The engine produces quite a bit more power than the old GMC engines with 800 HP and 775 lb-ft. or torque. This simply isn’t your daddy’s pickup.

The 2014 Targa Newfoundland ran along the island portion of the province of Newfoundland. It was a multi-day race with different routes/challenges testing all aspects of the driver/team and the vehicles. There was a technical day, prologue and five full days of competition. Each day, the competitors are challenged with a combination of closed race stages. There was also a rally route setup by a professional team of course setters to deliver a top-notch experience.
