The Science Behind The 2015 Corvette Z06’s Incredible Braking Power: Video

Chevrolet released some staggering performance figures for the 2015 Corvette Z06 last week. Among them were its incredible 0-60 mph time of 2.95 seconds and the eye-popping 60 mph-0 braking distance of only 99.7 feet. The Corvette team put Brembo in charge of delivering the former of those two jaw-dropping stats and the Italian supplier has now released a video partially explaining how they did it.

The Corvette’s available carbon-ceramic brake rotors measure 15.5-inches in the front and a massive 15.3-inches in the rear. They are each cross-drilled for maximum ventilation, which reduces heat and wear when pushing the car on the racetrack. The brakes also feature an aluminium monoblock caliper with differentiated size pistons and specially-developed high performance brake pads.

The Corvette Z06’s advanced aerodynamics and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires also contribute to its incredible braking performance, but opting for the Brembo carbon ceramics will really unleash the car’s full potential. Check out the video below to see what the brakes, part of the $7,995 Z07 package, are all about.
