The Entire Evolution Of The Corvette In One Awesome GIF1
Behold: seven generations of Chevrolet Corvette side profiles, morphing one into the next in a beautiful, elegant homage to that terrific car’s evolution of design.
This GIF image originated on eBay Motors, and was brought to our attention by our friends over at Auto Evolution. It shows black-and-white side profiles of every major Chevrolet Corvette revision from the 1953 C1, all the way up through the Corvette C7 that we have today.
What’s immediately clear from staring at this multi-generational slideshow is just how quickly the Corvette’s stature shrunk after the first generation into something more stout and sporty. The car’s beltline moves steadily downward from C1 through C3, as does the mass of the car. Obviously, as early as the C2 generation, that familiar sharp nose and fastback derrière that we all know and love comes into being.
This GIF reminds us of the broad, evolutionary past of the Chevrolet Corvette, America’s quintessential sportscar. Though its silhouette has changed quite dramatically over the 60 plus years of the Corvette’s existence, the car will always have in common its every step forward along the road to performance perfection.
And of course, this will remain the case by 2017, when the legendary American performance machine receives its first mid-engined production iteration.

I saw something similar done with the 911 a couple years back. The changes were less drastic over the years, but Porsche seems to update the 911 on a quicker basis. Roughly 50% of the Corvette’s life was taken up with the C3 and C4 models. It averages 8 years per model for C1, C2, C5, & C6 and 14 for C3 & C4.
