Mainland China has a week-long holiday called “National Day Golden Week,” part of a semi-annual holiday that takes place around the beginning of October. For this holiday week, Shanghai OnStar set several records for incoming calls and mobile application service volume:

  • Shanghai OnStar received 1.6 million requests for telematics services, which is an increase of 38 percent from last year.
  • The greatest number of incoming calls on a single day was nearly 190,000, an increase of 10 percent from last year.
  • Shanghai OnStar’s mobile application service was used 430,000 times, an increase of 53 percent from last year.
  • On average, Shanghai OnStar offered more than 150 incoming call services per minute.

“With our efficient, enthusiastic and professional service backed by our advanced technology and mature operation platform, Shanghai OnStar was ready to assist Shanghai General Motor car owners as they traveled during the weeklong holiday,” says Shanghai OnStar Managing Director Diane Jurgens. “Shanghai OnStar has been continuously improving our scope of service to take the user experience to a new level while utilizing mobile apps, WeChat, the Internet and other popular service platforms.”

The three most popular services during the holiday were Navigation (730,678 times), On-Demand Diagnostics (181,342 times), and Get Vehicle Location (180,381 times) − not bad for service available to 780,000 GM owners in China.
