Chevrolet is readying its usual run of heavily customized concept cars to bring to the SEMA show and this year, the bowtie brand is holding nothing back. Today it previewed several interesting custom cars it will show to the crowds at the Las Vegas Convention Center next month, including a tuned up performance variant of its Sonic hatchback.
The Sonic Performance concept has received engine, suspension, braking and appearance upgrades courtesy of Chevrolet Performance. The biggest exterior improvements come in the way of white 17-inch Chevrolet Accessories wheels, a concept ground effects package and a Synergy Green exterior paint finish with an offset white stripe. There are also accenting white rings around the headlamps and taillights, a white grille surround and mirror covers and a white spoiler.
Under the hood is the 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine which powers the standard Sonic, however in the Performance concept it has been upgraded with an air intake and a Chevrolet Performance high-flow exhaust system. The upgrades allow the boosted four to breathe a little better which results in more power, pushing an extra 10 horsepower and 15 pound-feet of torque compared to the base model.
Apart from the engine and exterior upgrades there is also a track-tuned suspension setup developed by Chevrolet Performance and Chevrolet Accessories floor mats, door sills and sport pedals. Keep an eye out for the Sonic Performance Concept and many other custom Chevys at the automaker’s stand at SEMA next month.
