The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 already left an impression on the guys over at Car and Driver with its staggering performance in their annual Lightning Lap track performance test. So, sister publication Road & Track sent the car out to see for themselves how much performance can be had from a wisely-spent $75,000, on the Road & Track “Motown Mile” private course.
The “Motown Mile” track was piecemealed together from existing stretches of airport pavement, and this lap was driven by Editor-In-Chief Larry Webster. The Z/28 absolutely screams through every corner. The car slides momentously around many of the course’s turns, but it’s not the kind of squealing, time-robbing wheelspin you have to look out for; Mr. Webster keeps it very controlled indeed, and the Camaro Z/28 is able to carry monumental speed through the line.
It’s unbelievable to us just how pointed and on-task this car remains through every corner. The video makes it look simple – even pleasurable – to cozy right up to the car’s impressive limits and remain there. At no point is there even the slightest indication that the Z/28 wants to bite the driver back; it’s as docile as a calf.
The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 ends up coming in just behind Road & Track‘s recorded time for the 2014 Dodge Viper SRT, and just ahead of the Corvette C7.
