In professional drag racing, cars are classified based on horsepower-to-weight, but for the street, torque-to-weight may be a more logical measurement. Autoblog recently compiled a list of the cars with the best torque-to-weight ratios in the market, spread among several price classes. General Motors products made a good showing:
Under $25,000 – Pounds Per Pound-Foot
- 6th place: 2015 Chevy Camaro V6 – 13.378
Under $50,000 – Pounds Per Pound-Foot
- 2nd place: 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500HD – 8.596
- 4th place: 2015 Chevy Spark EV – 8.765
- 9th place: 2015 Chevy Camaro SS – 9.305
- 10th place: 2014 Chevy SS – 9.578
Under $100,000 – Pounds Per Pound-Foot
- 1st place: 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 – 5.422
- 4th place: 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray – 7.170
- 6th place: 2015 Chevy Camaro ZL1  – 7.410
- 8th place: 2015 Chevy Camaro Z/28 – 7.942
The Silverado is an interesting inclusion, but remember this is the diesel version. The Chevrolet Spark EV is another notable one. All the rest of the GM cars are of sport or sporty pretensions, so they all stand to reason. As for the Corvette Z06, it should be no surprise it came out on top, but what’s more impressive is its performance numbers on the tarmac.

Slowly but surely, GM vehicles will all become leaders in their respective classes. It may take a decade, but it will happen. Thank god for the Alpha platform!
