General Motors Reveals Active Safety Testing Area Nearly Complete

Today General Motors revealed that the development of its $12 million Active Safety Testing Area (ASTA) at the Milford Proving Ground campus is nearly complete. The project broke ground in June 2013 and is scheduled to be fully functional by December 2014.

This new 52-acre facility is specifically designed for developing, testing, and validating Active Safety (i.e. crash avoidance) features. Included is a 16-acre dynamics pad and “various road networks” to evaluate sensors and algorithms, including cutting-edge systems involving autonomous control and vehicle-to-vehicle communication.

The ASTA will add to the already vast test capabilities of the Milford Proving Ground campus and increase GM’s ability to bring the best new safety technologies to customers.
