Corvette ZR1 and a Mercedes E63 AMG. Hands down a win for the ZR1, right? Well, let’s break down what’s going on in this horsepower shootout.
We have America’s sports car in one corner, and in this variation putting down a serious 861 hp. The challenger in the opposing corner is the sleek saloon from Deutschland, in this case tuned to pump out 850 hp. As the two monsters line up, the Blue Devil looks ready to add another victim to its 6.2L supercharged V8 list, and the driver’s reaction time jumps the Mercedes off the line. Now, if the two vehicles shown here were bare boned stock, this truly would be no competition. The AMG would be down close to 100 hp. Here, things are much different, and with power like these two cars are putting down, an AWD system would certainly help.
Well, that’s just what the E63 AMG has up its sleeve, the ability to deliver power to each of its four wheels. As the race continues, the E63 AMG really digs in and begins to steadily pull away from the C6 Corvette ZR1. Also to note, it seems the driver of the E63 AMG was having a real hot streak, obliterating a high output Audi TT RS and smoking a BMW M6. Overall, the two cars are quite the match, but at the end of the day, the Corvette simply couldn’t pull a win for the home team this time.

I’ve often entertained the idea of an AWD Corvette. What better way to raise the profile of the car with launches that are as visceral as they are swift.
