Searching for your newest weekend toy to take to the strip? Of course you are. Luckily, this 1979 AMC Spirit is for sale on eBay, and ready to run the strip to your heart’s content. The vehicle is without a VIN, so the only place it will frolic is on a drag strip. And frolic it will. Best of all, it’s a little different, being an AMC and all, but there is a twist.
Power comes from a Chevy 355 big block, pushing between 375 hp and 400 hp. Helping those cubic inches is a 306 solid cam, .555 lift, and roller tip rocker arms. The seller says the bottom end has been completely rebuilt, and the gears have been changed to 4.56 to optimize quarter mile runs. The current owner states the best time clocked is 6.8 seconds in the 1/8 mile. The vehicle is outfitted with new 456 Richmond Pro Series gears, and to top it off, this monster runs on unleaded premium gasoline. Shifting comes from a Powergilde transmission, and center line wheels and slicks are included.
What isn’t included is the smiles per gallon rating the new owner will certainly experience.
