Pickuptrucks.com Shows Off Its Three-Quarter-Ton Challenge: Video

As with the full-ton video, Pickuptrucks.com has released a new short and sweet recap video of last month’s 3/4 ton testing. This video goes over the variety of testing over two weeks and how the 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD claimed second place.

If you didn’t catch the test results, the 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with a 6.0L V-8 was just 84 points shy of besting the winning truck; the 2014 Ram 2500 HD. The 2015 Silverado 2500 HD won three really important events – two level-ground brake testing and one loaded fuel-economy. Yet, it seems to have come up short with a lack of new innovations. PUTCs found the new 2015 upgrades to have not gone far enough to top the myriad of changes the 2014 Ram 2500 offers.

Overall, the Chevy Silverado consistently scored better than the 2015 Ford F-250 and was really close to besting the Ram 2500. A pretty good result for the 2015 Chevy Silverado.

  1. GM needs to retire the 6.0L engine already.

  2. I agree, E. Roman. According to my research the hp /torque numbers look like this:
    6.0: 360/ 380
    6.2: 420/ 460

The new Ecotec 3 4.3 L and 5.3 get greater gas mileage and better hp numbers. I’m pretty sure that the direct injection/ variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation are not part of the 6.0. I’m wondering if there is an updated 6.0 or an ecotec 3 6.2 in the offing, and what the gas mileage could be. My 6.0 customers only get 15 or so in our hilly area.

  3. If the 6.2 was available in the HD’s, I would buy one tomorrow. Its the only thing holding me back. The 6.0 is just outdated, underpowered, and inefficient. Plain and simple, it is in need of replacement.

  4. my experience with the 6.0 3/4 ton was decent power but nasty mileage , why didn’t they upgrade to the 6.2, really not sure.

  5. It needs the 6.2 with 8 speed

  6. I suspect that the 6.0 is still around because it’s been a proven engine, it doesn’t have the same tech as the Ecotec3, so that makes it a simpler engine that’s easier and cheaper to fix.
