Officially Official: Next-Gen Chevrolet Niva To Launch In 2016

Having debuted the rugged Chevrolet Niva Concept at the 2014 Moscow Auto Show, General Motors has confirmed that the next-gen Niva will, in fact, launch in 2016.

Unlike the current model, the new Niva will offer an all-new exterior and interior that will be aligned much more closely with the rest of the Chevrolet lineup. Meanwhile, a more rugged appearance and design characteristics allow it to be a “real Niva”, while a redone cabin will allow passengers to ride in comfort.

The new Niva is expected to cradle a new Peugeout-sourced 1.8L inline-four engine making 135 horsepower, replacing the current model’s pre-historic 1.7-liter, 80-horsepower motor. The redesigned model is also expected to grow in length by roughly ten inches (25 cm).

  2. Love it, but why a Peugeot engine??? GM has an ECOTEC 1.8 140 hp and a large verity of Ecotec engines, they are better than Peugeot engines.

    1. It’s a weird thing, indeed. But it could be price-related.

      1. But i can’t understand why GM uses engine from other automaker as it has better engines in its portfolio.

      2. Could it be localized requirements for selling in Russia? Might be an engine with minimal pollution control or complexity. Isn’t that the Niva reputation? Tough and easy to fix yourself?

  3. Must be sold as a GMC! Such a vehicle could seriously challenge Jeep.

  4. Oh no don’t do it again. You got some real losers in the corporate offices there in Dearborn or Detroit or wherever. Get some of those people to leave the Midwest for God sakes. If you really release that beautiful new little vehicle as the “Niva” you’ll have millions of Hispanics laughing again. Ni-va is a type of conjunction in Spanish which means “it doesn’t even go.” Not unlike “No-va” which as you already know was a joke. Come on guys embrace those other cultures.

    1. This is a localized product solely and specifically for the Russian market where the Niva nameplate is legendary and highly respected.
