If you’re a regular here, there’s a good chance you’ve heard that Holden Special Vehicles is planning to send off the Commodore Ute in a big way with a new GTS Maloo. Wait no more.
The highlight of the new GTS Maloo is that it will feature GM’s supercharged LSA V8 engine, as seen in the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, HSV GTS Sedan, and outgoing Cadillac CTS-V family. This turns the already athletic ute into a ballistic missile with a truck bed, because fun trumps sensibility here. And at 577 hp and 546 ft-lbs of torque, the GTS Maloo is the fastest ute ever built from HSV.
Only a total of 250 HSV GTS Maloos are planned to be made, with 240 due to be sold in their homeland of Australia. And they’re already all spoken for. The other 10 are voyaging a stone’s throw away to New Zealand. Meanwhile, we’re over here whining in America that we can’t has ute.
The GTS Maloo also comes with 20″ alloy wheels, brake torque vectoring, and the Aussies’ choice of either a 6-speed manual with oil-cooler, or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
HSV boasts that the inclusion of brake torque vectoring is “a global first for a utility,” but that’s clearly not the only thing that makes this V8 supercar-in-utility-clothing a home run. And a damn great way to send off one of the most iconic Australian vehicles in history.
