John K. Blanchard, who has served as General Motors’ director of Local Government Relations for the U.S. since 2011, has been appointed the lead executive for all initiatives and projects within the metropolitan Detroit. He’ll serve as GM’s single-point contact for Detroit’s recovery in addition to his current position as his role in Local Government Relations.
“As a life-long resident of Michigan, John understands Detroit well,” says the senior vice president for Global Public Policy, Bob Ferguson. “Having John lead our efforts will ensure the company has an even greater impact in helping rebuild Detroit.”
Blanchard has worked for GM since 1983, first as a financial analyst (spending nine years in GM’s Corporate Finance organization) and, more recently, leading the GM Worldwide Real Estate Group that was responsible for the acquisition, disposition and redevelopment of all global corporate real estate. He’ll continue to represent GM on several boards and commissions within the Detroit community.
