Chevrolet Revitalizes South African Soccer Pitch, Donates Millionth World Futbol

To coincide with Chevrolet‘s global “What Do You #PlayFor?” campaign, a revitalized pitch in cooperation with The Dreamfields Project looks to inspire children in the area that through play anything is possible. The Mabu-a-tlou Playground’s goal is to steer influence away from negative factors impacting the lives of the local children, and introduce a positive force in the area.  “We identified the project in Hammanskraal a while ago as we realized there was a real need for football facilities in this area,” said Tim Hendon, Chevrolet brand manager, South Africa.

Hendon adds that “together, in partnership, we can move the goal posts and bring dreams to life. All it takes is dedication, determination, an unrelenting passion and a love for the game. Sport can really change lives.” Local dignitaries, Mabu-a-tlou representatives, and local school children joined Chevrolet executives in the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new facility.

In addition to the new soccer pitch, One World Futbol and Chevrolet, have delivered their one millionth football to the children in the Mabu-a-tlou region. One World Futbol was started in 2012, and are aiming for 1.5 million footballs world wide within the next year. Through One World Futbol Project, footballs are distributed to programs and schools in war-stricken zones, refugee camps, disaster areas and other disadvantaged communities worldwide.
