1969 Camaro Sets New Hot Rod Drag Week Speed Record: Video

Tom Bailey made headlines and entered the record books in 2013 after making six second passes on each of the five days of Hot Rod Drag Week. This year he’s gone even further.

On testing day at Tulsa Raceway Park, Bailey pushed the ’69 Camaro even harder, and resulted in the fastest miles per hour time ever recorded during Hot Rod Drag Week. Bailey clocked in at 6.52-seconds at an incredible 226 mph. An unfortunate twist to the record breaking news is runs on registration day are not counted. No matter, as Bailey and his Camaro further validated themselves by running a 6.54, at a still blistering 203mph. Now, he needs to run those times consecutively during the week, and that’s after over 1,000 miles of driving to each track on public roads. The can’t-miss-Camaro is powered by a twin-turbo, 632ci big-block Chevy by Steve Morris Racing Engines, and it makes 2,500-plus horsepower to the tires.

Check out the performance just below.
