10-Second Duramax Chevelle Smoke Screens The Drag Strip: Video

There’s always two ways to do something: the easy way and the hard way. When the owner of this Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 decided he wanted to make his car faster to go drag racing, he opted to take the more difficult route. A cam, nitrous and some other bolt-ons could’ve had this Chevelle scurrying down the 1320 in no time, but he had something a little more ambitious in mind.

Under the hood of the Chevelle is a Duramax diesel engine lifted from a General Motors heavy duty truck. The engine uses three 66mm compound turbos to produce 90 lbs of boost and has also been tuned by RPM Motorsports. As a result, the engine is making an easy 850 horsepower and 1,400 lb-ft and could be bumped up to 1,100 horsepower and 1,800 lb-ft with little to no hassle. The power is sent to the rear-wheels through a Hughes Performance XP5 Powerglide automatic transmission and an XP5 13-inch torque converter.

Those massive power figures propel the Chevelle down the quarter-mile in 10-seconds flat at 135.8 mph, making it one of the fastest oil burners we’ve ever seen. Check it out in the video below.
