Shanghai OnStar Launches Services On China’s WeChat Social Networking App

Shanghai OnStar has launched some of its services on WeChat — a popular social networking app predominantly used in China.

OnStar’s services in the app consist of three main features, including:

  • Monthly Vehicle Diagnostics: provides real-time synchronization with key vehicle functions such as the brakes, powertrain and tire pressure. The data is also available using the Shanghai OnStar website and mobile app (what users in North America know as the OnStar RemoteLink app).
  • Dealer Locator: enables users to search for a nearby dealer, as well as get its address and phone number. From there, users can utilize turn-by-turn navigation to be guided to the dealer of choice.
  • Send to Vehicle Navigation: allows users to send their destination to their car by using three simple clicks: “add”, “location” and “send”.

Shanghai OnStar is the first telematics service provider to launch its services on WeChat, making app its fifth service platform. The previously-existing platforms include the call center, mobile app, website, and voice platform, with features, services, and information continuously available and synchronized between the platforms.
