We have to admit, we think there is something undeniably cool about a fast SUV. The idea that you can carry your friends and all their stuff and still walk away from the majority of cars between the lights is extremely appealing. That’s why we happen to be big fans of Hennessey’s new HPE500 upgrade kit for the Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with the 5.3-liter V8.
The HPE500 upgrade kit includes a high-flow supercharger and high-flow intercooler, HPE engine calibration and all necessary gaskets, fluids and hardware to handle the extra power. The result, as seen in the video below, is 396 horsepower and 435 lb-ft of torque directly to the wheels. For reference, the stock 5.3-liter Tahoe dyno’d at 290 horsepower and 305 lb-ft.
Numbers are great and all, but it’s hard to gauge exactly how much extra performance that translates to on the road. Luckily HPE lined their supercharged Tahoe up with a stock 5.3-liter one for a drag race, so you can see how a little boost can go a long way. Check it out in the video below.
